Cranberry is a tiny red-colored, shiny fruit which is sweet and sour in taste. It is recently gaining importance in the medical field and is considered as a functional food. It can be consumed fresh or in the form of juice, jams, chocolates, candies and sauces. Cranberry possess antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant activities. It is best known for the treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is also good for reducing the risk of cancer and heart diseases. The fruit is small, round, red color berry. Each berry features four centrally situated tiny seeds enclosed inside capsules. The berry has pH in the range of 2.3 to 2.5.
